Are You Looking For A Home On Large Acreage?

Have you decided that you want to raise your children in the countryside? Maybe you especially want to live on large property outside of your present town or city. If you have already scoped out homes with land for sale and you're ready to make an offer on your dream house, there's no need to read any further. Maybe you are undecided and you need some help before you make a final decision. Read on for some thoughts that might help you.

Where Do You Want Your Home To Be Situated? Saying you want to live out in the country still means that there are choices to be made.

  • For instance, do you want to still be close enough to your place of business so that you can make the commute every day?
  • Maybe your spouse has been frank about the fact that she will still want to keep people like your family doctor and your dentist.
  • Besides professionals, maybe you both have close friends and extended family members in your present area and you don't want to lose close contact with them.
  • You might still want your family to be able to go to things like the theater and other cultural events held in your present city.

After considering all of those thoughts, it might be prudent for you to look for homes with a substantial land that will still allow you to make trips into town without it becoming a tremendous burden.

What Do You Want As Part Of The Home Design? - Of course, there are other things to consider before you make your home purchase.

  • Do you want your house to be in an area that still will offer you neighbors, even though they may not be within walking distance?
  • Perhaps you want a home that also has a guest cottage as part of the deal.
  • Have you always wanted a swimming pool on your property? What about tennis courts?
  • If allowed by the Home Owners Association to have horses on your property, is there a barn already available?

Besides all of those questions, think about what you want in the home design. If you love to entertain formally, you probably want a house that has both a dining room and a living room. If you love to cook and bake, you'll probably want a kitchen that has all of the latest kitchen equipment in it. Maybe your entire family wants an entertainment room. It is a good idea to keep that in mind while you're shopping.

Once you meet with a realtor, think of having a written list of the things you and the rest of your family really want in your new home. Be ready to make some compromises. For instance, you might want a one-level house, but there's a split level house that has pretty much everything you have on your list. It might be smart for you to go ahead with that split level home because of all that it has to offer.
